Rose quartz is quartz colored by microscopic fibrous inclusions of a pink mineral — most likely dumortierite — distributed through the silica structure. The inclusions diffuse light through the stone rather than transmitting it cleanly, producing the characteristic soft, even pink that never fully clears. This palm stone is shaped and polished into an oval that fits easily in the hand. Mohs 7 hardness — it will take regular handling without scratching. Major deposits come from Brazil, Madagascar, and South Africa.

Rose quartz beads excavated from Mesopotamian sites have been dated to approximately 7000 BCE, making it among the longest continuously worked adornment minerals on record.
