White and matte black—the simplest contrast, executed in two stones with genuine material character.
Howlite beads alternate with matte black stone beads throughout this bracelet. Howlite is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide (Ca₂B₅SiO₉(OH)₅), Mohs 3 to 3.5, white with characteristic grey veining; the matte finish of the black beads—likely black agate or black onyx—creates a surface that absorbs rather than reflects light, producing a clean, quiet contrast. The combination reads as deliberately understated. Howlite was first described by Henry How from Nova Scotia in 1868; black onyx is trade-standard agate that has been dyed and is sometimes found naturally black.
In the crown chakra tradition, howlite is associated with mental clarity and composed attention. Black onyx and agate are placed at the root chakra and associated with grounding.
A bracelet for the collector who wants material contrast without visual noise—two serious stones in a single, clean band.
