A stone in colors that read like the Australian outback at dusk—ochre, burgundy, cream, and rose.
Mookaite is a silicified radiolarite—a sedimentary chert formed from the compacted silica skeletons of single-celled radiolaria—found exclusively in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia, near Mooka Creek (the name derives from the creek and the Aboriginal word “mooka,” meaning running water). Mineralogically it is a microcrystalline quartz, Mohs 6.5–7, with color variations driven by iron oxide, manganese, and other mineral inclusions during diagenesis. No other deposit replicates its characteristic multicolor banding.
In the tradition of Australian lapidary practice and modern chakra work, mookaite is associated with the root chakra and linked in practice to grounding, decisiveness, and adaptability. Its single-origin provenance makes it a stone with a clearly located story.
For the collector who wants a Western Australian specimen in a wearable form.
