Green quartz—faceted oval, set in sterling silver, and rarer than it looks.
Prasiolite is the pale green variety of quartz. Natural prasiolite forms when amethyst or colorless quartz deposits in Brazil are exposed to specific heat and chemical conditions in the earth; most commercial prasiolite originates from the Montezuma mining region of Minas Gerais, where amethyst is gradually converted to prasiolite through geological processes or, in most trade material, by controlled heating to approximately 400–500°C. The result is the same mineral species—silicon dioxide, Mohs 7—with a distinctive pale sage-to-apple-green color that separates it from darker green stones. This stone is set in solid .925 sterling silver in a faceted oval cut.
Commercial prasiolite mining began only in recent decades and remains concentrated in a single region of Brazil, making it relatively scarce compared to amethyst. In tradition it is associated with the heart, third eye, and crown chakras and is sometimes called a stone of spiritual balance.
A pendant for a fine chain or cord—the pale green reads quietly against most metals and skin tones.
