Jade is a trade name covering two distinct minerals: jadeite (a sodium-aluminum pyroxene, Mohs 6.5 to 7, specific gravity 3.25 to 3.36) and nephrite (a calcium-magnesium amphibole, Mohs 6 to 6.5, specific gravity 2.90 to 3.02). Both carry the green color the name implies, though the range and saturation differ between species. This tumbled stone is polished to a smooth finish that reveals the characteristic waxy luster of jade. Major sources include Myanmar, Guatemala, New Zealand, and Canada.

Carved jade artifacts from East Asia date to at least 6,000 years ago. In Chinese tradition, jade is the stone of heaven, associated with virtue and longevity; in Mesoamerican tradition, it was more valued than gold. In the contemporary chakra system it is placed at the heart center.

Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate, CaSO&sub4;·2H&sub2;O), Mohs 2, with a distinctive fiber-optic luminescence and a silky, striated cleavage surface. It is one of the few minerals that is not itself piezoelectric yet is consistently used to reset the energy field of other stones in lapidary tradition. White sage (Salvia apiana) is native to the coastal sage scrub of Southern California and Baja; it has been burned as a purifying smoke in Indigenous North American ceremonies for documented centuries.
