Translucent white, with the soft inner glow of a stone that is more light than rock.
Selenite is a variety of gypsum (CaSO⊂4;·2H⊂2;O) that formed in ancient evaporite deposits — the slow crystallization of mineral-rich water as shallow seas dried over geological time. Its translucency is structural: gypsum grows in flat, parallel molecular sheets that transmit light rather than scattering it, giving selenite its characteristic inner luminescence. Mohs hardness 2 — soft enough to scratch with a fingernail — and soluble in water over prolonged contact; keep it dry. This piece is tumbled and polished to a smooth, rounded form.
Named for Selene, Greek goddess of the moon, the stone has been part of ritual and ceremonial practice across cultures — the Egyptians buried it with their dead; the Greeks held it during prayer. In the chakra tradition it is linked to the crown and third-eye chakras.
A pocket piece or display stone — its translucency reads best in natural light.
Every crystal is hand-picked for exceptional beauty, quality and energetic integrity, then vortex-charged in Sedona’s sacred energy. This process infuses each piece with a high-frequency presence, delivering a crystal experience that feels as powerful as it looks.
