A pink that is geological, not dyed—manganese in the crystal structure of a Norwegian zoisite.
Thulite is a pink variety of zoisite (Ca2Al3(SiO4)3(OH)), a calcium aluminum sorosilicate, its color produced by manganese substituting for calcium in the crystal lattice. The stone was first formally described in Norway in 1820 and named for Thule, the ancient Norse and classical concept of a northern land at the edge of the known world. This oval cabochon is set in solid .925 sterling silver.
Primary deposits occur in Norway, where thulite is considered the national stone. Additional localities include the United States (North Carolina), Australia, and Austria. In the chakra tradition it is linked to the heart and higher heart chakras.
A pendant for the collector who wants something with a genuine geological story behind its color.
