Deep black broken by veins of rust and sienna—this is the volcanic record made round.
Mahogany obsidian is volcanic glass: felsic lava cooled so quickly that no crystals had time to form. The mahogany coloration comes from inclusions of iron-rich minerals, primarily hematite and magnetite, dispersed through the glassy matrix in irregular streaks and patches. Each sphere carries a different proportion of dark glass to warm iron tones. Mohs hardness approximately 5 to 5.5; conchoidal fracture typical of all obsidian. Major sources include Mexico and the western United States.
Obsidian was prized by Indigenous cultures across Mesoamerica and the American Southwest for its ability to fracture to a remarkably sharp edge. In the root and sacral chakra tradition, mahogany obsidian is associated with grounding and with anchoring one's focus in the present.
A substantial sphere for a display stand, a desk, or a collection built around earth-toned volcanic stone.
Every crystal is hand-picked for exceptional beauty, quality and energetic integrity, then vortex-charged in Sedona’s sacred energy. This process infuses each piece with a high-frequency presence, delivering a crystal experience that feels as powerful as it looks.
