Blue-green and faceted, it carries the look of shallow coastal water locked into stone.
Aquamarine is the blue to blue-green variety of beryl—beryllium aluminum silicate—colored by trace ferrous iron (Fe²⁺). It forms in granitic pegmatites and hydrothermal veins, typically in well-developed hexagonal prisms. Mohs 7.5–8, with vitreous luster and good transparency. The color ranges from pale sky blue to a more saturated sea blue-green; most commercial aquamarine has been heated to 400–450°C to remove greenish tones and produce a cleaner blue. This piece is set in solid .925 sterling silver.
Aquamarine is the traditional March birthstone. Roman sailors carried it as a protective stone during sea voyages—a use recorded by Pliny the Elder in Natural History (Book XXXVII, ca. 77 CE)—linking the gem to the sea through both its color and its name. In the chakra tradition it is associated with the throat and heart chakras.
A wearable gemstone pendant for anyone drawn to cool blue-greens. Pairs with silver, white gold, or platinum.
