Carnelian is a translucent variety of chalcedony—microcrystalline quartz colored orange to red by dispersed iron oxides within the silica matrix. The faceted cut maximizes the stone's internal light refraction, intensifying the warm tone. Mohs 6.5–7 makes it a durable choice for earrings that will be worn regularly. Most commercial carnelian is heated to deepen its color, a centuries-old and universally accepted trade practice. Set in solid .925 sterling silver.

Carnelian is September's traditional birthstone. The ancient Sumerians and Egyptians fashioned it into amulets and seals; the Persians, Greeks, and Babylonians used it in signet rings. Selenite is a crystalline form of gypsum (calcium sulfate dihydrate, CaSO&sub4;·2H&sub2;O), Mohs 2, with a distinctive fiber-optic luminescence and a silky, striated cleavage surface. It is one of the few minerals that is not itself piezoelectric yet is consistently used to reset the energy field of other stones in lapidary tradition. White sage (Salvia apiana) is native to the coastal sage scrub of Southern California and Baja; it has been burned as a purifying smoke in Indigenous North American ceremonies for documented centuries.
