A double-pointed fluorite column, silver-wrapped, with a point at each end.
Fluorite is calcium fluoride (CaF²), a halide mineral with Mohs hardness 4 and perfect octahedral cleavage in four directions. The double-point form—a column cut to a terminated point at both ends—is a lapidary form that emphasizes fluorite's color and transparency; its relatively low hardness means both terminations are hand-polished carefully to avoid fracturing along cleavage. Fluorite is notable for strong fluorescence under ultraviolet light—the word fluorescence derives directly from fluorite, which was the original material observed to exhibit this optical property. Set in solid .925 sterling silver. Major sources include China, Mexico, and the Illinois Fluorspar District.
Fluorite takes its name from the Latin fluere—to flow—reflecting its use as a smelting flux. In ancient Chinese and Roman culture it was used for ornamental carvings, often confused with jade and amethyst. In tradition it is associated with all chakras and with focus and balance.
A pendant with a presence—two directions of point, and color that shifts with the fluorite's internal zoning.
