A pyramid that holds the full fluorite color spectrum in a single carved face.
Fluorite is calcium fluoride—CaF²—a halide mineral with a Mohs hardness of 4 and perfect octahedral cleavage in four directions, which is why a fractured edge catches light in a characteristic staircase pattern. Green fluorite owes its color to trace impurities within the crystal structure; the same species produces purple, blue, yellow, and colorless specimens from the same locality. The pyramid form is cut and polished by hand, which requires care because fluorite cleaves readily. Major deposits come from China, Mexico, and the mining districts of southern Illinois.
Fluorite takes its name from the Latin fluere—to flow—because it served for centuries as a smelting flux before its mineral identity was formally recognized. It was used in ancient Chinese and Roman ornamental work, where its color range led lapidaries to mistake it for jade and amethyst. In tradition it is linked to all chakras and to focus and mental organization.
