A heart-cut garnet in silver—a shape that earns its symbolism in this stone.
Red garnet belongs to the nesosilicate group; the deep red in jewelry is typically almandine (iron-aluminum) or pyrope (magnesium-aluminum). Mohs hardness 6.5–7.5 with no cleavage, which gives faceted stones durability in a ring setting. The heart cut here is faceted by hand, set in solid .925 sterling silver. Gem-quality red garnet comes from the Adirondack Mountains of New York, India, and the Czech Republic, occurring most commonly in metamorphic schists formed under significant heat and pressure.
Garnet has been set in jewelry for more than five thousand years, appearing in Egyptian Nile Delta burial ornaments and Roman signet rings. Its continuous use across cultures links it to courage, passion, and commitment—associations that make the heart-cut form more than incidental. In the chakra tradition it corresponds to the root and heart chakras.
