Pale sage green meets electric blue—two faceted stones that each hold their own.
Prasiolite (green amethyst) is a green variety of quartz produced when amethyst or certain yellowish quartz is heated to approximately 400–500°C, converting the iron-based color center responsible for purple into one that produces pale green. Natural prasiolite is rare; commercial material is typically produced by heating Brazilian amethyst to 400–500°C, converting the iron-based color center that produces purple into one that produces pale green. The blue stone is blue apatite, a calcium phosphate mineral (Ca₅(PO₄)₃(F,Cl,OH)) whose vivid blue comes from trace rare earth elements. Apatite is Mohs 5, requiring some care in daily wear. Both are set in solid .925 sterling silver with faceted cuts.
Commercial mining of gem-quality prasiolite dates only to 2019 in a single Brazilian locality, making it a relatively recent entry to the jewelry market. Blue apatite has been collected as a mineral specimen for far longer—found notably in Madagascar, Brazil, and Myanmar. In the chakra tradition, prasiolite is linked to the heart and crown chakras; apatite to the third eye and throat.
Earrings for the collector drawn to unusual pairings—the warm sage and cool blue work together without competing.
