Pink and cream in concentric rings—the slow geology of an abandoned mine, set in silver.
Rhodochrosite is manganese carbonate (MnCO3), Mohs 3.5—4, and its characteristic banded pattern forms when manganese-rich solutions deposit material layer by layer inside cavities—often, as tradition holds, in old silver mines. The stone's transparency and color intensity vary with manganese concentration; the banding records each pause in that slow deposition. Set here in solid .925 sterling silver.
Major stalactitic rhodochrosite formations have been documented in former mining districts in Argentina, where the stone has long carried the common name "Incan Rose." Additional significant deposits occur in Colorado, South Africa, and Peru. In the chakra tradition it is linked to the heart and solar plexus chakras.
A pendant for the collector who wants something geologically specific rather than merely decorative.
