A smooth oval of translucent gypsum that fills the palm and holds the light.
Selenite is a variety of gypsum (CaSO⊂4;·2H⊂2;O), formed in ancient evaporite basins as saline water slowly crystallized over millions of years. Its molecular structure — flat, parallel sheets that transmit rather than scatter light — gives it an inner glow that is unmistakable in any form. This palm stone is shaped and polished to fit the hand, the flat oval form designed for sustained contact. Mohs 2: soft, and water-soluble over prolonged contact; keep it dry.
Selenite takes its name from Selene, the Greek moon goddess. It has been used in ritual objects across the Aztec, Maya, Egyptian, and Greek traditions. In the chakra tradition it is connected to the crown and third-eye chakras and to meditative clarity.
